OAS condemns Morales plane incident and urges EU countries involved to apologize

The Organization of American States Permanent Council (OAS) adopted on Tuesday a resolution expressing solidarity with President of Bolivia Evo Morales whose official aircraft last July 2 was delayed because of air space pass-by denial in Europe and urged the European countries involved to provide explanations and apologies.

Paraguay not interested in Mercosur if Venezuela holds the chair, says top official

Paraguay called for practical sense from its Mercosur partners Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay to try and overcome the current impasse which could lead to a rift if Venezuela occupies the chair of the group at this week’s summit in Montevideo. Paraguay does not recognize Venezuela’s full membership because it was decided in its absence.

Venezuela main purchaser of weapons in 2012, but Brazil has largest defence budget

The defence industry is booming in Latin America amid economic growth and greater concerns regarding national security, said the renowned security and defence consultancy firm IHS Jane's. Imports of weapons soared 16% in the subcontinent in 2008-2012, climbing from 3.42 billion to 3.96 billion dollars annually, the firm said in a report called “The Balance of Trade.”

To silence rationing rumours, Venezuela announces 760.000 tons of imported food is on the way
