  First case of zika confirmed in Texas

  

  Texas health officials have announced Monday their first case of Zika virus, making it the second US state to report such an occurrence after Florida. The victim is a woman who is not pregnant and has not traveled anywhere a Zika affected area in recent times, it was announced.

  Former Green Party presidential nominee Jill Stein has launched a campaign to recount the votes in three key states where Donald Trump seized victory. For the Republicans, it is just an “expensive political stuntt” since the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton would need to reverse results in all three of those states to reach a different outcome.

  The most expensive destroyer ever built for the United States Navy has suffered an engineering problem in the Panama Canal and had to be towed to port. U.S. The 3rd Fleet spokesman Commander Ryan Perry says a vice admiral has directed the USS Zumwalt to remain at ex-Naval Station Rodman in Panama to address the issues. The ship was built at Bath Iron Works in Maine.

  United States stocks extended their post-U.S. election rally Tuesday with moderate gains that pushed the Dow above 19,000 for the first time and the three major indexes to record closing levels for a second straight day. The S&P 500 ended above 2,200, led by gains in telecommunications, up 2.1%, and consumer discretionary up 1.2%. The small-cap Russell 2000 index also set another record-high close.

  TPP without the US would be “meaningless” says Japanese PM Shinzo Abe

  

  The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal would be “meaningless” without US participation, Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe said as United States President-elect Donald Trump announced he planned to quit the pact. PM Abe’s comment on Monday (Tuesday morning) came shortly before the Mr Trump released a short video about his plans for his administration, including an intention to have the US drop out of the TPP pact.
