But in the region's Southern Cone there is a clear outlier wedged between Brazil to the east, with over 3.5 million confirmed cases, and Argentina to the west, with half a million.

The Falkland Islands Government has confirmed that, as part of its efforts to contribute to the worldwide Coronavirus relief response, it has made a donation of £5,000 to Centro de Promoción por la Dignidad Humana (CEPRODIH), based in Uruguay.

After Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel stated on Friday “considerable doubts” over whether to keep backing the European Union’s (EU) trade deal with the Mercosur due to environmental threats that represent the deforestation in Brazil’s Amazonia, the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK) responded defending the agreement that was reached last year.

The Argentine government decision to impede a return humanitarian flight from Montevideo to Mount Pleasant Complex in the Falkland Islands received ample coverage in the Uruguayan and Argentine media.

Mrs. Faye O'Connor who has been appointed as ambassador before the Uruguayan government is in Montevideo and will soon start in office, as the successor of the previous ambassador, Ian Duddy, who has been reappointed to Chile.
