Falklands “Time Capsule” to celebrate 250th anniversary of flying the Union Flag in the Islands

As part of the celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the Union Flag being raised by English Commodore John Byron in the Falkland Islands, on 21 January 1765, more precisely on Saunders Island, a ceremonial sod of turf was raised on the site for a “Time Capsule” to be buried.

Funds for South Georgia habitat restoration program; third phase begins February

The South Georgia Heritage Trust (SGHT) has been awarded a quarter of a million pounds towards the final phase of the Habitat Restoration, or rodent eradication Project, reports South Georgia's Newsletter. The third phase of the several years program is scheduled to begin in February.

UK economy expanded 2.6% in 2014, the fastest since 2007

The UK's economy grew by 2.6% last year, the fastest pace since 2007 and up from 1.7% in 2013, official figures have from the Office of National Statistics, ONS, have shown. The economy expanded 0.5% in the last quarter of 2014, which was a slowdown from the 0.7% of the previous three months.

Consumer confidence in Brazil drops in January to its lowest

The reading of consumer confidence dropped in Brazil in January--to its lowest level ever--as the country's economy struggled. Brazil's main consumer-confidence index was at 89.8 points in January, down from 96.2 points in December, the Getulio Vargas Foundation, or FGV, said earlier this week.
