Falklands youths and adults learning ball hockey with Canadian coaches

Experienced Canadian coaches Gary Slavin and Dave Weloy have made the journey across the globe to coach Falkland Islands youths and adults in the sport of ball hockey. Organized by Marcus Morrison, the trip was funded by the Shackleton Scholarship Quality of Life Awards, and the pair visit under the auspices of the International Street & Ball Hockey Federation.

St Helena/South Africa commercial weekly flights begin this month

The British Overseas Territory, BOT, St Helena Government and Airlink have announced that the sale of tickets for flights to St Helena Island will commence early in September 2017.Airlink will operate a weekly service between St Helena and Johannesburg and St Helena and Cape Town (via the stopover at Windhoek International Airport in Namibia).

Paraguayan guerrillas kidnap two Mennonite farmers in less than two weeks

A Paraguayan guerrilla group kidnapped on Friday a young Mennonite farmer in central Paraguay in an area where similar abductions have taken place. Bernard Blatz Friessen, 22, was driving a pickup while his father followed in a harvester, when he was attacked by several men with heavy guns who opened fire on the tires of the two vehicles.

Falklands' Government Investment funds reached £344 million in June 2017

The market value of all Falkland Islands Government, FIG, investment funds have increased from £285 million in June 2015, to £309 million in June 2016 and to £344 million in June 2017.

August inflation in Euro zone reaches 1.5%; Unemployment unchanged at 9.1%

The inflation rate in the Euro zone rose to a higher-than-expected 1.5% in August, according to Eurostat, the European Union's statistics office. The preliminary estimate for the month was up from July's rate of 1.3%.

Welsh Labour supports party's decision for a soft Brexit and single market

A Welsh Member of Parliament who quit Labour's shadow cabinet rather than back the bill to trigger Brexit has welcomed the party's call to stay in the single market temporarily. Cardiff Central MP Jo Stevens said Labour was “shifting in the right direction” on relations with the EU.
