    Argentina to spend over $ 40 billion on military equipment

    Argentina's Defense Minister Julio Martínez needs new equipment for his forces

    President Mauricio Macri has approved the purchase of airplanes for the Air Force, patrol vessels for the Navy and armored vehicles and combat rifles for the Army, it was announced Monday to give the Armed Forces back some of their lost firepower, Defense Minister Julio Martínez revealed. The total purchases will surpass 40 billion pesos (2,500 million US dollars), the minister added.

    First loan for an Andes tunnel to connect Argentina with Chile as part of Mercosur road net

    The new Agua Negra tunnel will be 13.9kms long and stand at an altitude of 3,620 to 4,085 meters above sea level, at an estimated cost of US$ 1.5bn

    The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a US$40 million loan that will allow for bidding to begin for the Agua Negra tunnel, which will connect San Juan province in Argentina with that of Coquimbo in Chile. The tunnel is key to improving trade integration between the two countries and the rest of Mercosur through a new corridor that will connect the Atlantic and the Pacific from Porto Alegre, Brazil, west to Coquimbo, Chile.

Falklands' lawmaker, MLA Mike Summers was in attendance for these talks as part of the UK delegation.

    Two Argentine forensic experts will be part of the group under the Red Cross that will collect DNA samples from the remains of the Argentine unidentified combatants buried at the Falkland Islands' Darwin cemetery with the purpose of fulfilling the task of identifying the graves which read “Argentine solider, only known unto God”.

    Brazil and Argentina agree to open Mercosur to the world and expand trade horizons

    Brazil and Argentina foreign ministers agreed on Thursday in Brasilia that Mercosur must open to the world and expand its trade horizons, but it will have to be done without Venezuela which has been currently “ceased” from the block. Jose Serra and Susana Malcorra coincided that Mercosur must speed the trade agreement with the European Union taking advantage of the fact US elected-president Donald Trump has pledged to limit such treaties.

    The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in an official release announced that on Friday, (9 December), in Geneva, it will be hosting talks with delegations from Argentina and the United Kingdom to discuss next steps relating to the identification of the unidentified Argentine soldiers buried in Darwin cemetery in the Falkland/Malvinas Islands.
