  Everybody is aware of the recent hunt for the lost Argentine submarine San Juan, but what only a few know is that Falkland maritime archaeologist Mensun Bound was one of the team on board the Seabed Constructor, the ship that conducted the search.

  Falklands' fleet will have a new trawler freezer by the end of 2020

  

  Galicia's Rampesca and the Falkland Islands RBC have ordered a new 63.7 meters long and 1.500 gross tonnage freezer trawler from Nodosa Shipyard, according to shipbuilding sources in Vigo. The new vessel is expected to replace the “Castelao”, and construction will begin this January. It will replicate much of the recently delivered “Monteferro”.

  Argentina appoints an auditor/administrator at INIDEP to “normalize activities”

  

  Argentina has appointed an auditor/administrator for the National Institute for Fisheries Research and Development (INIDEP), former R/Admiral Marcelo Lobbosco, who was head of Buenos Aires province ports. During his 180-day term (with a possible extension of another 180 days), and according to Decree 1127, Lobbosco must try to overcome the staff disputes which have impeded the normal activity of research cruises.

  Identification Plan of Argentine remains in the Falklands to be extended

  

  Argentina and the United Kingdom are to discuss the extension of the current Humanitarian Project Plan to identify Argentine combatant remains buried in the Falkland Islands, to include possible errors in the names of some graves, and other burial sites such as Pebbles island, according to a report from Martin Dinatale published in the news agency Infobae.

  Marine Protected Areas controversy in the South Atlantic

  

  In a brief communiqué released on Friday the Falkland Islands government takes note of a recent Argentine announcement indicating the creation of Marine Protected Areas to the south of the Budrwood Bank. The Falklands government said it “believes the designation of this area encroaches on our Fisheries Conservation Zone and steps are being taken to address the matter”.
