    From 16 July until 23 July 2023, Mount Pleasant Complex, MPC, personnel will be conducting a series of routine training exercise activities around the Falkland Islands. Key dates to be aware of:

    Falklands approves additional medical funding

    The Standing Finance Committee funded £600,000, and £200,000 annually, for an Arthroplasty ‘Catch-Up’ Plan to treat Islanders for hip or knee replacements.

    The Falkland Islands Standing Finance Committee met in the Liberation Room this week and approved initial funding of £600,000, then £200,000 annually, for an Arthroplasty ‘Catch-Up’ Plan to treat Islanders who have been waiting for hip or knee replacements.

    Falklands CFL Charitable Fund made seven awards this year

    “After a few slow years during Covid the competition for funding was lively this year,” noted CFL Trust Chair Janet Robertson.

    Falkland Islands Consolidated Fisheries Ltd Charitable Trust has made a total of seven awards this year, benefitting a range of people both in the Falklands community and beyond.

    Falklands launches tender for replacement of port facility FIPASS

    FIG today launched a tender for the provision of a new port facility for the Falkland Islands. The tender process was approved by Executive Council in February 2023, and today’s launch follows months of work with professional advisers and engagement with existing port users to refine the specification and provide both FIG and prospective tendering companies with a robust and complete model of what the Falklands needs from its port facility, looking decades into the future.

    Falklands government and NGOs restores tussac peatland on nature reserves

    The Environment Department of the Falkland Islands Government has announced a successful tussac planting campaign at Gid’s and Middle Islands this winter in collaboration with Island LandCare and the Antarctic Research Trust.

    New Sikorsky Bristow helicopter unloaded at Falklands' MPA

    The helicopter was delivered on the Falkland Islands Resupply Ship (FIRS) and transported to the Bristow hangar at MPC, HQ of BFSAI.

    Bristow Group responsible for Search and Rescue, SAR, and aircraft support solutions at Mount Pleasant Complex, in the Falkland Islands moved a new helicopter frame by road from Mare Harbour to Heli-Ops on Friday 6 July.

    Falklands are holding Mid Winter Swim plus a “Lunacy Certificate”

    Previous mid winter swims have been a great success

    On Sunday 9th July Falkland Islands are holding their Mid-Winter Swim at Surf Bay. The annual event raises funds for the Lighthouse Seafarers Mission; the Cancer Support and Awareness Trust and the Stephen Jaffray Memorial Fund.
