Global meeting to regulate trade in 18 types of shark and ray; 30 countries back proposals

Dozens of countries will push at a global meeting for regulations on trade in 18 types of shark and ray, with conservationists warning of looming extinction for many species. “Sharks and rays are pretty much unmanaged still in fisheries around the world and are disappearing before our eyes,” Luke Warwick of the Wildlife Conservation Society told reporters in Geneva.

Mar del Plata fisheries landings totaled 210.000 tons in seven months

In seven months of the current year, landings in the Argentine port of Mar del Plata reached 210.000 tons, which is 3.3% more than the same period a year ago, according to local fisheries authorities. Hake, apparently, helped with the positive difference since squid landings were notoriously lower.

Argentine fisheries exports stable during the first half of 2019

Argentina's fish, seafood and sea shell landings increased 8.8% during the first six months of the year compared to the same period in 2018. Exports, on the other hand, slid 0.3% as did income generated, 2.9%, according to the latest release from the country's Fisheries Under Secretariat.

The elected government of the Falkland Islands reported on Friday that the Scientific Sub Committee of the South Atlantic Fisheries Commission met in Buenos Aires on 17 and 18 July 2019.
