  German Industries tells members to prepare “for a very hard Brexit”

  

  German companies with a presence in the UK should be planning for a “very hard Brexit”, Germany's biggest industry body has warned. German industry looked “with concern” at the progress of the Brexit talks, said the boss of the Federation of German Industries (BDI), Joachim Lang. Britain “is lacking a clear concept despite talking a lot,” he added.

  Top Spanish bank moving out of Catalonia because of independence scare

  

  Sabadell, the Barcelona-based bank, said it will move its legal base out of Catalonia following threats by the region's leaders to declare independence. Spain's fifth-biggest bank said it would start the process on Friday to move its legal domicile to Alicante. Its headquarters and employees will remain in Barcelona.

  Sterling down on uncertainty about Theresa May's future as prime minister

  

  Uncertainty over Theresa May's future as prime minister helped send sterling down nearly 1% against the dollar on Thursday. The pound fell 0.9% against the greenback at $1.3127 and declined 0.45% against the euro to €1.1217. The fall reflected concern about the Conservative Party leadership following Mrs. May speech on Wednesday.

  The number of Chinese visitors to the Antarctic Peninsula is growing rapidly, adding to concerns over the fragile ecosystem. It’s almost a three-week trip and will cost at least 100,000 Yuan (US$15,000), and before a foot is set on frozen land, special boots are needed to walk over a sponge mat soaked in disinfectant. Besides this season Chinese tourists will have to purchase carbon credits to offset emissions.

  Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay formally launched South America’s three-nation bid to host the 2030 World Cup on Wednesday and said Argentina would likely host the majority of the tournament’s stadiums. The presidents of the three nations, who announced in August that they were teaming up to bid for the tournament, kicked off the campaign at the Casa Rosada, Buenos Aires’ government palace.
