  First work stoppage for the New York Times in forty years

  

  More than 1,000 employees at The New York Times, one of the leading US dailies, began a 24-hour walkout on Thursday. In what is the first work stoppage in over 40 years at the newspaper, The NewsGuild labor union cited the organization's “failure to bargain in good faith,” after setting a deadline for a contract for midnight December 8.

  Putin reported having exit plan to Venezuela if Ukraine bid fails

  

  Russian leader Vladimir Putin was reported to have an exit plan for Venezuela, should he fall from grace in Moscow if his country does not succeed militarily in Ukraine. Argentina and China were also said to have been under consideration but were eventually discarded.

  Man hanged in Iran for violence in post-Amini protests

  

  A man has been executed by hanging in Iran following his indictment for his participation in the nationwide protests since the Sept. 16 death of young Mahsa Amini while in morality police custody for not wearing the veil properly.

  Xi arrives at Saudi Arabia to cement the “China/Arab cooperation in a new era”

  

  Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday for a three-day visit, where he is expected to attend the China-Arab States Summit plus a meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which includes Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
