Franco and Rajoy meet to discuss Ibero-American summit non-invitation to Paraguay

Paraguayan president Federico Franco and Spain’s Mariano Rajoy are scheduled to meet on Tuesday at the United Nations building to talk about bilateral issues and the coming Ibero-American summit in Cadiz, next November 16/17 which has become a highly controversial issue.

Ecuador’s Rafael Correa and El Salvador Mauricio Funes have the highest approval ratings with 80% and 72% among presidents of the Americas, according to a report from Consulta Mitofsky. At the other extreme stand Sebastian Piñera from Chile, Laura Chinchilla from Costa Rica and Paraguayan Federico Franco with the lowest support.

Foreign tourist arrivals in Chile up 16.4% in eight months; August marks new record

Chilean Army begins October demining of route leading to Torres del Paine park

The Chilean Army is scheduled to begin in October the clearance of anti-tank mines which are distributed on the sides of the route leading to the national Park of Torres del Paine from Puerto Natales and which were planted during the seventies at the height of a conflict with Argentina that almost ended in a full-fledged war.

Ecuador suggests transferring Assange to its embassy in Sweden so he can be questioned

Ecuador proposed on Friday transferring Wikileaks founder Julian Assange from its embassy in London where he has taken refuge to that in Sweden where he is a suspect of sex related crimes. However this depends on Britain and there has been no official reaction to the proposal.

Timerman obtains Colombian support for Malvinas claim and UK/Argentina talks

Foreign minister Hector Timerman thanked the Colombian government for supporting Argentine legitimate claims over the Malvinas Islands and for calling for a resumption of negotiation with the UK to find a peaceful solution to the South Atlantic islands dispute.
