An England Football Association Representative XI played a Falkland Islands team and a British Forces XI over the weekend. The match against the Falklands' team on Saturday saw the FA side win 3-1 with the team captained by Mitchell Parker. Both matches were played at the Stanley Community School field.
England's Football Association (FA) is participating in a goodwill visit to the Falkland Islands in November, where they will play two football matches, one against the Falkland Islands national team in Stanley and the British Forces South Atlantic Islands XI. The party will also participate in coaching sessions with the two schools in Stanley and the junior school at the Mount Pleasant.
The Falkland Islands are under “continuous” threat from Argentina but is very capable of being able to defend itself, Member of the Legislative Assembly, Mark Pollard told Darren Hunt from the Express at the Conservative party conference in Birmingham.
The Falkland Islands also joined Royal Air Force centenary celebrations. Despite poor weather the hangar event held at Mount Pleasant Complex, MPC, to celebrate RAF 100 the Royal Air Force Centenary (April 1) “went off perfectly,” according to spokesperson for the event.
Residents of the Falkland Islands annually mark one of the early major naval battles of the First World War, which took place off the coast of the Islands. This year the event was commemorated with a traditional parade, made up of Members of the Falkland Islands Defence Force.
The Queen's Baton Relay of the Commonwealth Games has arrived in the Falkland Islands. The baton carries a message from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Head of the Commonwealth, and is travelling around the world prior to the beginning of the Commonwealth Games in April 2018. This tradition began in 1958. The baton visit was organised by the Falkland Islands Overseas Games Association (FIOGA)

THE air terminal at Mount Pleasant is likely to be subject to civilianisation in approximately nine months, and be rebuilt, or extended or refurbished in two and a half years, stated the Chief Executive Barry Rowland at the public meeting on Monday.

Royal Navy and Royal Air Force personnel based in the Falkland Islands have conducted a long range rescue of a British man from a Russian cruise ship. The MV Akademic Sergei Vavilov was visiting South Georgia, 800 nautical miles to the east of the Falklands, when the man was bitten by what is thought to have been a fur seal at Salisbury Plain Beach.
