Lord Jones asked the government what assessment they had made of the Falklands’ EU exports, and the impact of World Trade Organization tariffs on Islands fisheries.

    Battle Day 2018 in London

    Andrew Rosindell MP, lays the wreath for the All-Party Falklands Parliamentary Group. MLA Teslyn Barkman lays the wreath for the Falkland Islands Government.

    The annual Falklands memorial service at the Cenotaph took place on the 8th December in brilliant sunshine. On this day in 1914, the naval Battle of the Falkland Islands took place and the ceremony is a commemoration of those who gave their lives then. It also honours those who fell liberating the Islands from Argentine occupation in 1982.

There is also a mention to other BOTs, such as the Falkland Islands, and its main exports market, Spain, 'which has a taste for Argentine squid'. And 'it is not clear whether the Falklands will retain tariff-free access to this market once Britain leaves the EU'.

    UK paper on Brexit defines London's commitment to British Overseas Territories

    London is working closely with BOTs to ensure their priorities are taken into account in the UK-EU negotiations on withdrawal, the implementation period and future relationship.

    The United Kingdom Government published on Tuesday its latest paper on Brexit entitled “Legislating for the Withdrawal Agreement between the United Kingdom and the European Union”.Chapter 1/11 refers to Crown Dependencies and UK Overseas Territories and states the UK government “will continue to engage and keep these jurisdictions informed as the Bill is developed”.

    Immigration minister Caroline Nokes said consultation with the BOTs is now “on our agenda”.

    People applying for British Overseas Territory citizenship still face “unacceptable” discrimination, a committee of MPs and peers has said. Citizenship rights still depend on whether a person's parents were married or whether it was their mother or father who had citizenship.

    Representatives from British Overseas Territories held a meeting at 10 Downing Street hosted by Sir John Randall, the Special Advisor on Environment to the Prime Minister. The issues discussed included Brexit, international platforms, renewable energy, climate change, HMG’s Oceans and marine protected areas agenda.

    What does the new Falklands ‘Islands Plan’ mean for South America?

    The Plan makes a specific reference to promoting the Falklands as the natural “gateway to Antarctica”,

    Over the past decade it is has become customary for a newly elected Legislative Assembly in the Falkland Islands to publish an ‘Islands Plan’. As there are no political parties in the Falkland Islands, all eight members of the Assembly are independents. Therefore there is no collective manifesto when elected to office. This has traditionally been addressed via a consensus-based Islands Plan.
