Two British diplomats based in Latin America were visiting the Falklands this week, arriving on Sunday on the delayed LATAM flight after enjoying an unexpected one-night stopover in Punta Arenas. Making his second visit to the Falklands was His Excellency Ian Duddy, British Ambassador to Uruguay. He was accompanied by Richard Jones, Second Secretary at the British Embassy in Buenos Aires.
Winners of the Hackathon Agro competition co-organized by the UK embassy in Uruguay, the local Cámara Uruguaya de Tecnologías de la Información (CUTI) and Fundación da Vinci, have visited England. From 6-17 September, Montevideo was home to Uruguay’s biggest agricultural industrial fair, Expo-Prado, and the British Embassy was present with a pavilion focused on tourism, business, education, gastronomy and culture.
In a Sunday release the Argentine government regretted the presence of the Falkland Islands stand at the Prado agro-industry show which is taking place in Montevideo, and said it expects collaboration from the Uruguayan government.
The Argentine embassy met with officials from the Uruguayan Rural Association, ARU, to express their disappointment since the Falkland Islands have a stand at the Great Britain pavilion in the Prado agro-industry show in Montevideo, according to a report from Television Nacional, which belongs to the Uruguayan government media complex.
Uruguay's main agricultural, industrial and commercial show, Expo/Prado 2017 opened in Montevideo on Wednesday. The annual event, which this year is international, (it rotates with Argentina's Palermo show) is an opportunity for city people to admire the best cattle, sheep, horses and hogs of the region, and for the farmers a chance to see how much technology has advanced in the last twelve months.
Following the previous edition’s success, the British Embassy in Uruguay will be present for the fourth consecutive year at the agricultural show, Expo Prado, from 6 - 17 September, with a Pavilion centered on business, education, culture, gastronomy and entertainment, including a Falkland Islands stand.
