The Falkland Islands could have a new port within the next two years. Three consortia have presented proposals to the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) for a new port confirmed Legislative Assembly Member Dr Barry Elsby in recent weeks.
Nicolás Aguiar, a 24-year International Relations student at the University of Rosario in central Argentina will be spending a week next February in the Falkland Islands, with a local family, following his successful video presentation replying to the competition question, “Why I would like to meet my neighbors in the Falkland Islands?”
England's Football Association (FA) is participating in a goodwill visit to the Falkland Islands in November, where they will play two football matches, one against the Falkland Islands national team in Stanley and the British Forces South Atlantic Islands XI. The party will also participate in coaching sessions with the two schools in Stanley and the junior school at the Mount Pleasant.

A spokesperson for British Forces South Atlantic Islands has dismissed stories that plans to refurbish Ascension Island runway are not to go ahead.
