    All crew members of Taiwanese jigger which caught fire are rescued in the South Atlantic

    All 58 crew were swiftly and safely evacuated to another fishing vessel Lung Soon Fa 1, and are awaiting the arrival of a reefer vessel to transport them to Uruguay.

    The government of the Falkland Islands has reported that all crew members of a Taiwanese jigger which caught fire in the South Atlantic have been rescued and should be arriving in Montevideo in the coming days.

    Falklands issues public consultation for the oil industry

    The Falkland Islands Government, FIG, has issued a public consultation document covering the taxation regime for oil companies operating in the Falkland Islands and their associated supply chain partners. This consultation will be open until Friday 6 April 2018 for responses from interested parties, which will be summarized and fed into final policy and legislative design later during 2018.

    Falklands confirm March 26 visit of Argentine relatives of identified soldiers at Darwin cemetery

    Following work undertaken by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in identifying the remains of unidentified Argentine soldiers buried in the Falkland Islands Darwin cemetery, an Argentine private charter will be arriving at Mount Pleasant on Monday March 26.

    Falkland Islands gears up for Illex Season 2018

    John Barton said 105 fishing vessel required licensing for the Illex squid season.

    The Falkland Islands Government are currently going through the annual process of licensing fishing vessels for the Illex squid fishery in their Conservation Zone. Illex are a migratory species of squid, caught in significant quantities in the South-West Atlantic annually. The product is mainly shipped to the Far East where it is consumed.

    Falklands holds consultation on Premier Oil environmental impact statement

    The offshore Sea Lion oilfield, located in the North Falklands Basin approximately 120 miles to the north of the Falkland Islands.

    An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) has been submitted to the Falkland Islands Government by Premier Oil Exploration and Production Limited. The EIS covers the proposed development activity for Phase 1 of the offshore Sea Lion oilfield, located in the North Falklands Basin approximately 120 miles to the north of the Falkland Islands.

    The Falkland Islands Government has announced the appointment of Rachel Seddon as the new Director of Education for the Falkland Islands. Rachel has worked in education for the last twenty five years. In the last five years she has managed a wide curriculum at Assistant Principal level; led a sixth form college; and has been Director of Quality and Learner Support at a large London college.

    The Falkland Islands government, FIG, announced on 16 January the permanent appointment of Jeff McMahon as Chief of Police within the Royal Falkland Islands Police (RFIP). Mr. McMahon arrived in the Falkland Islands in May 2017 and was promoted to Detective Chief Inspector in July.
