    Argentine embassy disappointed with Falklands stand at the Prado show

    The Argentine embassy met with officials from the Uruguayan Rural Association, ARU, to express their disappointment since the Falkland Islands have a stand at the Great Britain pavilion in the Prado agro-industry show in Montevideo, according to a report from Television Nacional, which belongs to the Uruguayan government media complex.

    Falklands' preparations and registration for November 9 General Election

    The proposed closing date for candidates nominations is at 4:15pm on October 20, 2017.

    The Falkland Islands General Election is planned to take place on the November 9, “and the Registrar General has the necessary preparations in hand,” announced Member of Legislative Assembly Michael Poole at Thursday’s meeting of Legislative Assembly.

    Falklands' government announces the on line Statute Law Database

    The important publication achieves the Government’s Islands Plan object to improve access to the law, and reflects a vital commitment to uphold the rule of law

    The Falkland Islands Government has announced the on-line publication of the laws of the Falkland Islands. A public demonstration of the on-line Statute Law Database will take place in Stanley at the Court and Council Chamber at 5.30pm on Wednesday 2 August 2017. Members of the public may also access a paper copy of the Statute Law Database through the public library.

    The exhibition will run from Tuesday 20th June until Saturday 24th June at the A & D Gallery

    “The Falklands: 35 Years of Progress” is the second photographic exhibition held by the Falkland Islands Government, and is an exhibition with a difference. The photographs were crowd-sourced by the Falkland Islands Government, which ran a competition to find the very best pictures from the Islands’ many skilled photographers.

    Falkland Islanders and their supporters met in London on the 13th of June for the annual Liberation Day Reception. This time it was special - it marked the 35th anniversary of the war. Guest of honour was Sir Alan Duncan, just re-appointed as Foreign Office Minister with responsibility for the Falklands; this was his first outside engagement.

    Falklands' Criminal law and criminal justice system reform come into force Friday

    The Falklands courthouse. The Attorney General's office has published guidance documents explaining the framework in which prosecution decisions are made.

    The Falkland Islands government has announced as part of its transparency policy that reform to the criminal law and criminal justice system come into force from Friday, 21st April. The official release states that the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Ordinance and the Crimes Ordinance are a root and branch reform of the criminal law and the criminal justice system in the Falkland Islands.
