    Falklands annual Safeguarding Report calls for Islands to be “Model of Best Practice”

    Last week the Falkland Islands Government published their annual report on safeguarding and child protection issues in the Islands. The Government is obliged legally to publish an annual report on such matters, a requirement brought into law in 2014 after a number of historic issues were discovered and investigated in recent years. This document looks to summarize activities in this field over the past year and does not provide any details on individual cases.

    Falkland Islands Government Partnership with local Environmental NGO Updated

    The Falklands Islands Government have just recently finalized a review process of their Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Falklands Conservation, a local environmental NGO. This is an important partnership for the Government and has been in place 2006 on a formal basis.

    Falklands' contracts consultant to decide on Stanley Airport’s upgrading

    The Islands Plan 2018-2022 articulates the government’s commitment to improve air links and airport facilities at Stanley Airport.

    Runway codes are determined according to runway length; Code 1 being at least 800 meters long and Code 3 , 1200 to 1799 meters in length. Ramboll’s aviation division has been involved in airport developments in a number of countries around the world, including the UK (Heathrow), Russia, Rwanda and Gibraltar.

    Falklands' parade on 21st April to celebrate Queen's birthday

    The Parade will include a 21 gun salute and a fly past, and will be followed by a march past at which Governor Phillips CBE, will take the Royal Salute.

    The Falkland Islands will be holding a parade to celebrate the birthday of the Queen at Victory Green on Saturday 21st April 2018. The parade will form up at Victory Green at 10.20 hours and Governor Nigel Phillips CBE will arrive at 10.30 hours.

    Falkland Islanders react to Argentine Next of Kin Visit

    Throughout the process the Falklands government have actively allowed for and facilitated the work, seeing it through purely humanitarian terms.

    As Mercopress have covered, families of 90 unidentified soldiers visited the Falkland Islands from Argentina last week. They spent the day at the Argentine military cemetery at Darwin and paid respects to their sons, brothers and partners whose remains were recently identified after a lengthy DNA process administered by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

    As readers of Penguin News will be aware, the project leading to the identification of 90 of the 121 previously unidentified soldiers whose graves are found in the Argentine military cemetery at Darwin faced many difficulties.

    The Falkland Islands government has announced details of next Monday's visit of relatives of the Argentine fallen soldiers whose remains, at the Argentine military cemetery at Darwin, were recently identified by a special team led by the International Red Cross.     Falklands plans fishing talks with Argentina after more than a decade

     Barton: “Dialogue with Argentina on the conservation of shared marine resources has the potential to allow for better management of shared fish stocks”

    Exchanges of information between the Falkland Islands and Argentina about fish and squid stocks could begin again before the middle of this year, if all parties are in agreement. Director of Natural Resources John Barton said: “Dialogue with Argentina on the conservation of shared marine resources has the potential to allow for better management of shared fish stocks and improve sustainability of such stocks.”

    Argentine embassy honors identification effort at Falklands' Darwin cemetery

    The former lead singer of Pink Floyd, Roger Waters, Malvinas veteran Julio Aro, British ex Colonel Geoffrey Cardozo and Argentine journalist Gaby Cociffi were honored last Friday with “Two Roses for Peace” at the Argentine embassy residence in London in a ceremony hosted by ambassador Carlo Sersale Di Cerisano.
