  Iconic war Aircraft to be exhibited at the Falkland Islands Museum & National Trust

  

  The Falkland Islands Museum & National Trust is delighted to announce the impending arrival of two additional aircraft for exhibition. Currently located at Marchwood, these aircraft are scheduled to arrive in the Falklands in early June 2024, with plans for their transportation to Stanley on or around June 14th, Liberation Day, weather permitting.

  Falkland Islands Government agrees new financial package in support of its heritage

  

  On Wednesday 22 September, the Falkland Islands 'Executive Council, ExCo agreed on the provision of a capital grant of up to £1m and a loan facility of up to £750,000 to support the Falkland Islands Museum & National Trust (FIMNT) to progress the development and construction of the new Lookout Gallery and Exhibition Hall. The package is designed to mitigate ongoing financial pandemic pressures, including the continued absence of international tourism.

  Discovery of WW1 German Battlecruiser SMS Scharnhorst in Falklands waters

  

  The Falklands Maritime Heritage Trust is pleased to announce that the wreck of SMS Scharnhorst has been located off the Falkland Islands. The Scharnhorst, an armoured battle-cruiser and the flagship of Admiral Maximilian Graf von Spee’s East Asia Squadron, was sunk on 8 December 1914 during the Battle of the Falkland Islands, a crucial naval battle in the early days of the First World War.

  Falkland Islands' newly-restored Whalebone Arch was revealed this week. After six weeks of sanding and repairing and coating with epoxy resin, the iconic structure in Stanley is now open to view, and to the elements.

  Falklands' Museum and National Trust to receive decommissioned Sea King

  

  In recognition of the time the Sea King helicopter has spent supporting both the military and the civilian population of the Falkland Islands, the UK Ministry of Defense has donated the decommissioned Sea King Search and Rescue Helicopter to the Falkland Islands Museum & National Trust.
