    TRIP: How is the tourism voucher scheme launched in the Falklands

    Interested residents will be able to apply for the scheme by completing a registration form.

    Today, as part of a raft of recovery measures designed to support businesses and stimulate economic growth throughout the Falkland Islands during the global pandemic, the island’s government (FIG) is pleased to announce the launch of the Tourism Recovery Incentive Programme – or ‘TRIP’.

    Falklands announces support schemes for the tourism industry

    Tourism is an increasingly important sector for the Falkland Islands: prior to Covid-19, the sector generated approximately £16 million in annual sales.

    The Falkland Islands Government provided details on Wednesday of a range of support schemes designed specifically to mitigate the effects of the global pandemic on tourism businesses, operators, and employees over the next twelve months, as well as prepare the sector to take advantage of renewed demand in 2021 and beyond.

    Falklands' visitors growing satisfaction, according to TripAdvsor ratings

    ”We want operators of accommodation, tours and other tourism-related businesses to encourage their guests to leave reviews on TripAdvisor.”

    The Falkland Islands Tourist Board annual assessment of TripAdvisor ratings shows that the overall satisfaction of visitors to the Islands increased in 2019. There are almost 5,000 ratings of accommodation, attractions, pubs, restaurants, and tours in the Falklands on TripAdvisor, with 600 of these being posted over the last 12 months.

    Falklands' leisure tourist arrivals increase 7% and expenditure 12% in 2019/20

    Falklands had a record breaking 2019/20 cruise season, with 72,836 visitors

    A total of 72,836 cruise passengers arrived in the Islands, up 16.5% on the previous season, reported Ms Middleton, Executive Director of the Falklands Tourist Board

    Falkland Islands Seven (and main) Wonders for Visitors: the spectacular wildlife

    Falklands attended the IAATO annual conference in United States

    Steph Middleton is Executive Director of Falklands Tourist Board; Carl Sudder is Tourism Coordinator at Sulivan Shipping and Chair of Falklands Travel Assoc.

    Falkland Islands tourism ambassadors Steph Middleton and Carli Sudder are returning from the United States after attending this year’s International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators (IAATO) conference in Newport, Rhode Island. Steph Middleton is Executive Director of the Falkland Islands Tourist Board, while Carl Sudder is Tourism Coordinator at Sulivan Shipping and Chair of the Falklands Travel Association.

    Falklands celebrates the growing success of the tourism industry

    The biggest cheer of the night greeted the announcement that Jenny Luxton had won the Executive. Director’s Award for outstanding contribution to tourism.

    Government House was a welcoming venue on Tuesday night for the presentation of the Falkland Islands Tourist Board’s annual awards. In addition to the hopeful contenders from across the industry there were most of the 28 newly qualified tour guides waiting to receive certificates.

    The Falkland Islands Tourist Board (FITB) launched its new website earlier this week. Acting CEO of FITB Stephanie Middleton said: ”We are delighted to finally launch this site. It is driven by a detailed database of accommodation, restaurants, shops, attractions and events, which allows us to make changes and keep it fresh on a regular basis.
