  Uruguayan coach makes history for Gibraltar football in the UEFA League

  

  Gibraltar created football history on Tuesday October 16 when they claimed victory over Liechtenstein coming from 1-0 behind to win 2-1 in their fifth group 4 match in League D. The second consecutive victory in the same week was Gibraltar’s first official competitive win on home soil in front of a sellout crowd.

  Gibraltar's Attorney General appointed to FIFA's Ethics Committee

  

  The Government of Gibraltar has warmly congratulated Michael Llamas QC upon his appointment as Europe's representative in the highly prestigious and important Ethics Committee of FIFA. Llamas joins other highly distinguished lawyers and judges who will form part of the Ethics Committee. These include a former President of the Court of Justice of the European Union.

  Gibraltar's football upbeat: FIFA will finance an UEFA category 4 stadium

  

  The Gibraltar Football Association is to buy the Victoria Stadium from the Gibraltar Government, in a move that paves the way for local football teams to play international games at home and, in parallel, will trigger a £16.5m investment in new sport infrastructure around the Rock, reports the Gibraltar Chronicle.

  UEFA member Gibraltar will appeal FIFA decision rejecting its incorporation

  

  Gibraltar's football association has announced it will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after FIFA rejected its bid to become a member. FIFA president Sepp Blatter said the “FA of Gibraltar cannot be accepted as a member of FIFA” because it contravened the world governing body's statutes regarding independent territories.

  “Spain's association can deny Gibraltar the opportunity of progress in football”

  

  A former coach of Real Madrid has criticized the political motivation behind the Spanish Football Association and Government’s decision to block Gibraltar’s participation in UEFA. Manuel Ruiz Pérez, who worked under Bernhard Schuster during his time at Real Madrid, said that nothing good come out of mixing politics with football.

  Gibraltar moved from Group to avoid playing Spain at qualifier for UEFA EURO 2016

  

  Gibraltar will play against the might of Germany, Scotland, Poland, the Republic of Ireland and Georgia in Group D of the qualifying rounds in the Euro 2016 football championships. Gibraltar’s first match is a home-fixture on 7 September against Poland.

  UK 'unreserved' support for Gibraltar's international sports: first football, now rugby

  

  Britain’s Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, Maria Miller, has pledged her ‘unreserved’ support Gibraltar’s international sporting ambitions. The backing for Gibraltar comes as the Gibraltar Rugby Football Union (GRFU) goes through the process of FIRA/AER (European Rugby Federation) membership after being previously rejected and blocked by Spain last July despite meeting the necessary criteria.
