  Icebreaker Irizar returns from its first Antarctica campaign in ten years

  

  Argentina's icebreaker Almirante Irizar is back in Buenos Aires at the end of its first Antarctic campaign in ten years, following the fire that almost knocked the Finnish built vessel out of action. She left on 26 December and completed 107 days in the high seas and Antarctica's ice.

  Argentina plans to organize tourist air tours to Antarctica beginning 2018, with the government's airline, LADE, according to official sources from the Tourism and Defense ministries.

  “Our Lady of Malvinas” arrives in Antarctica; she will be enshrined in Ushuaia on 2 April

  

  The replica of an image at the Argentine Darwin cemetery and which was blessed by Pope Francis arrived this week to Argentina's Antarctica base Marambio, the last leg of its passage to Tierra del Fuego and austral islands, “where it will enshrined on 2 April, on a new anniversary of the Malvinas war”, according to the country's official news agency Telam.

  Argentina again contracts Russian vessels and choppers for the Antarctic 2013/2014 season

  

  Argentina has again contracted Russian polar vessel “Vasily Golovnin” for the supply of its Antarctica bases and stations this coming summer season. The 24.4 million dollars package also includes ice-breaker 'Dranitsyn' and two heavy load helicopters Kamov KA32 which will making most the hardest work in the extreme south outposts

  Argentine Antarctic campaigns disarray and corruption claims turn off recruiting

  

  Argentina’s Antarctica campaigns are losing their flair and the country is having difficulties to fill vacancies for the 2013/14 season. This follows repeated claims of alleged corruption and delays in supplying the bases and stations plus an overall lack of support from the Defence ministry.
