The Falkland Islands urged the EU Commission to ensure that the rights of citizens of Overseas Counties and Territories are not compromised in relations with countries and regional bodies.
Falkland Islands lawmakers said on Tuesday they found a very positive attitude from Governments and civic leaders in support for self-determination in all non-independent territories during their current round of visits to Caribbean independent countries.
Falkland Islands Legislative Assembly members Mike Summers and Roger Edwards are visiting St. Kitts and Nevis in then Caribbean this week to attend Commonwealth Games Federation meetings and hold talks with government ministers.
“We’ve always had support from the British Government before but now it is just so strong” said Falkland Islands Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Sharon Halford this week on her return from the United Kingdom Party Conferences.
UK Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg was very much interested in the Falkland Islands situation, oil prospects and relations with “our neighbours across the sea”, said Islands’ lawmaker MLA Roger Edwards present at the Liberal-Democratic party conference this week in Birmingham.
Falkland Islands Members of Legislative Assembly will be present at the annual party conferences in United Kingdom. MLA Sharon Halford and MLA Roger Edwards left for the UK on Tuesday and will be joined for their task by the Falkland Islands Government (FIG) London Representative Sukey Cameron MBE.
Falklands’ representative publicly invited the president of the UN Decolonization Committee to see for himself the reality of the self-sufficient and self-governing Islands, and called on C24 to recognize “the primacy of our right to self determination above anything and everything else”.

Falkland Islands Members of the Legislative Assembly Roger Edwards and Dick Sawle will be in New York June 21 to attend the United Nations Committee of 24 sessions and later will meet US and Canada officials in Washington and Ottawa.
