    Falklands War carrier HMS Illustrious headed for scrapping in Turkey

    HMS Illustrious is the last aircraft carrier of the Royal Navy until the new Elizabeth-class ships become available

    Replacements are years away and still Britain’s last aircraft carrier, ‘HMS Illustrious,’ has set sail to be scrapped in Turkey. The vessel, known as 'Lusty,' came into service in 1982 and was rushed into service to catch the lattermost stages of the Falklands War. She also served in the Gulf Wars and Sierra Leone conflict. It was one of three Invincible-class ships commissioned in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

    UK defence and security relationship underlined at Chile´s Exponaval 2016

    UK Defense Secretary confirms 2017 start for Type 26 Frigates

    The 2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR15) set out the UK Government's commitment to build eight Anti-Submarine Type 26 Global Combat Ships.

    Defence Secretary Michael Fallon announced that the steel cut for the Royal Navy’s new next generation Type 26 Global Combat Ship now will take place in summer 2017, subject to final contract negotiations. The 2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review (SDSR15) set out the UK Government's commitment to build eight Anti-Submarine Type 26 Global Combat Ships.

    First of the UK’s new nuclear deterrent submarines has been named “Dreadnought”

    Named fifty six years after the launch of Britain’s first nuclear-powered submarine of the same name, Dreadnought has been borne by no fewer than nine Royal Navy ships.

    The United Kingdom Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has announced that, to mark Trafalgar Day, Her Majesty the Queen has graciously approved that ‘Dreadnought’, one of the most famous names in the Royal Navy, will become the lead boat and class name for the Royal Navy’s new successor submarines.

    HMS Kent in London: Battle of Jutland centenary commemorations

    HMS Kent is the fourteenth of the Royal Navy’s sixteen Type 23 Frigates. She was launched by her sponsor, Her Royal Highness Prince Alexandra, on 27th May 1998.

    HMS Kent is visiting London this weekend on her way to take part in the Battle of Jutland centenary commemorations, in which she will play a central role. This year marks 100 years since the Battle of Jutland, the greatest sea battle of the 20th Century.

    “Falklands remains well protected” says MoD brushing aside London media claims

    The United Kingdom Ministry of Defense (MoD) has rubbished claims that the Falkland Islands have been left without protection, due to the absence of a British warship (frigate or destroyer) permanently based in the south Atlantic. The MoD defended itself following reports that the Falkland Islands were “without the protection of a British frigate or destroyer for the first time since the conflict in 1982”.

    Falklands' veteran ex HMS Hermes to decommissioned by Indian Navy

    She is the last of the Centaur-class carriers and is the longest-serving aircraft carrier in the world.

    Aircraft carrier from Portsmouth that fought in the Falklands War is making her final journey before being decommissioned after almost 60 years of active service. HMS Hermes served with distinction in the conflict against Argentina in 1982 before being sold to the Indian Navy and renamed INS Viraat.

    Atlantic Patrol Tasking HMS Lancaster in Gibraltar

    Sailing around the Cape Hope and back across the Atlantic HMS Lancaster called at the Falkland Islands, South Georgia and Tristan de Cunha

    HMS Lancaster, a type 23 Frigate is in Gibraltar for a few days to top up on fuel and supplies and allow its crew some rest and recuperation. HMS Lancaster recently completed a 9-month deployment to the South Atlantic where she conducted Atlantic Patrol Tasking, and made over 23 port visits in 18 countries.

    Falklands based British Forces rescue cruise passenger injured in South Atlantic

    Royal Navy and Royal Air Force personnel based in the Falkland Islands have conducted a long range rescue of a British man from a Russian cruise ship. The MV Akademic Sergei Vavilov was visiting South Georgia, 800 nautical miles to the east of the Falklands, when the man was bitten by what is thought to have been a fur seal at Salisbury Plain Beach.
