  Falkland Islanders are hoping to mark the 40th Liberation anniversary with a year of events that both commemorate the liberation of the islands and look to their future, the Chair of the 40th-anniversary committee told Mercopress this week.

  Falklands recalls first loss at Goose Green in May 1982, and the incarceration of local residents by Argentine forces

  

  The Falkland Islands are preparing for the commemoration of significant anniversaries of events from the 1982 conflict when Argentine forces invaded the country. The first of these will take place at 2pm on Sunday 3 May, when a short memorial service will be held at Goose Green to mark the death of Lieutenant Nick Taylor.

  Deminers resume work in Falklands following a road accident involving five of its members

  

  Five members of the SafeLane demining team operating in the Falkland Islands were involved in a road traffic incident on December 21. John Hare of Safelane Global told Penguin News the vehicle was the second in a convoy of three.

  “Thirty years since the Madrid Treaty: rethinking a new national strategy for Malvinas”, was the heading of the conference held in the extreme south Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego with the participation of the governor, Rosana Bertone, former foreign minister Jorge Bielsa, and the Malvinas Question related affairs Secretary, Jorge Arguello a diplomat and one of possible foreign minister names if the opposition candidate Alberto Fernandez wins the presidential election this month.

  Falklands/Malvinas war experience conference forcibly cancelled at Buenos Aires college

  

  An open conference by two Argentine Air Force pilots at an elite college in Buenos Aires had to be suspended following “ill-treatment” and overall questioning of Argentine armed forces conduct by the students and apparently one of the parents that were also invited to the event.

  Falklands: UK, Argentina and Red Cross discussing further remains identifications

  

  Argentina, United Kingdom and the International Committee of the Red Cross are advancing in negotiations to extend the current agreement for the identification of Argentine combatants fallen during the South Atlantic conflict and buried in the Falkland Islands at the Argentine military cemetery in Darwin.

  Scientific investigations into the ten body remains that are still pending of identification are advancing significantly, announced on Tuesday Argentina's Human Rights and Cultural Pluralism Secretary, Claudio Avruj in reference to the unmarked graves of combatants buried at the Argentine military cemetery in the Falkland Islands, a legacy of the 1982 South Atlantic conflict.
