  Argentina commemorates 10 June as the Reaffirmation Day of Argentine Rights over the Malvinas, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, and surrounding maritime spaces. A commemoration that has its roots on a fundamental event that took place in 1829, according to an official release from the Argentine foreign ministry.

  Argentine minister underlines Falklands' cooperation with UK in his final report

  

  With the change of government in Argentina just round the corner, 10 December, the Foreign and Worship ministry presented a Foreign Policy Performance Report of the four-year mandate of outgoing president Mauricio Macri. The report was presented by Minister Jorge Faurie, and chapter 5 refers to the South Atlantic Islands, specifically the Falklands, and also Antarctica.

  The Argentine government declassified a secret decree from the latest military dictatorship which authorized and funded an operation for the “effective and peaceful” occupation of one of the South Atlantic islands, occupied by the UK , in what was considered a first step to the ultimate goal of taking over the Falkland Islands.

  East Falkland, among most plastic contaminated shores in South Atlantic Islands

  

  The amount of plastic washing up onto the shores of remote South Atlantic islands is ten times greater than it was a decade ago, according to new research published in the journal Current Biology. Scientists investigating plastics in seas surrounding the remote British Overseas Territories, including East Falkland, discovered they are invading these unique biologically-rich regions. This includes areas that are established or proposed Marine Protected Areas (MPAs).

  Weddel seal ends on the mid Atlantic Brazilian island of Trindade

  

  The Brazilian Navy spotted something unusual in the azure waters of the South Atlantic. In 2015, at a remote outpost and biological research station on the island of Trindade, 1,100 kilometers off central Brazil, sailors spotted a small gray seal swimming in the waves. Two days later, they found its body on the island’s Catelha beach. Scientists who went to take a closer look made an astonishing discovery—the corpse was a young Weddell seal.

  Argentina, on a UN decision expands continental shelf area by 35% to 350 miles

  

  Foreign minister Susana Malcorra is scheduled to officially announce on Monday the external limit of Argentina's continental shelf based on a unanimous decision from the UN Commission on the Limits of the Continental Shelf, (dependent from the Oceans and Law of the Sea), which adds to Argentina's shelf 1.7 million square kilometers, apparently confirming areas surrounding the Falklands/Malvinas, other South Atlantic islands and the Antarctica Argentine sector.

  St Elena's airport will receive its first airplane test landing next July
