  Floods in Uruguay have 10.000 people displaced and losses are estimated in a billion dollars

  

  Uruguay's emergency committee reported on Thursday another death and over 10.000 people displaced because of widespread floods that followed a tornado and several days pouring rain. The ninth victim is a farmhand who fell off his horse while trying to cross an overflowed canal. A few hours before the body of a missing farmer was found kilometers down a river that sucked him while he was trying to save cattle.

  Uruguay forecast to grow 2.5% this year, but must “strongly moderate” public spending

  

  Private consultants forecast the Uruguayan economy will expand 2.5% in 2015, compared to 3.5% the previous year, but recommend a “strong moderation” in government spending to retake the path of sustained growth and contain the consequences of an adverse international scenario mostly recessive.

Export receipts are growing at a markedly lower clip than a few years ago and domestic demand growth is slowing towards a more sustainable pace.   Uruguay's fiscal deficit 'relatively' stable at 3.3% of GDP

  

  Uruguay's fiscal deficit in the twelve months to August was equivalent to 3.3% of GDP, or 1.725bn dollars according to the latest release from the Economy and Finance ministry. However the primary deficit (before debt payments) was 202 million dollars or 0.39% of GDP.

  Uruguay's second pulp mill Montes del Plata started production this week following an investment of 2 billion dollars, the largest ever in the recent history of the country. The announcement was made by the Chilean-Swedish complex that is running the plant.

  Uruguay's economy expanded 2.4% in the first quarter compared with the same 2013 period, but contracted 0.4% compared with the fourth quarter of last year, the central bank said this week. However deceleration is a fact since growth of the first quarter in 2013 has gone up 4.6% over 2012.
