Liaison man between Lula and Rousseff's presidencies, and corruption scheme arrested

Brazilian presidents Lula da Silva and Dilma Rousseff former Presidential Chief of Staff and Finance Minister Antonio Palocci was temporarily arrested on Monday morning in São Paulo as part of the 35th phase of the Lava Jato (Car Wash) Operation investigating the Petrobras corruption scandal.

Deutsche bank in danger zone: shares down 50% this year and sliding

Shares in Deutsche Bank were down sharply after a report that the German government won’t intervene with U.S. officials who are pressing the bank to pay US$14 billion to settle an investigation into its sales of mortgage-backed securities. The bank’s shares closed down 7.5% at 10.55 Euros on Monday after the Friday report from Focus magazine.

Early polls indicate better prepared Hillary came ahead of Trump in the debate

Early polls following the first of three presidential debates point to Hillary Clinton coming out ahead of Donald Trump in Monday night’s face off. According to a CNN/ORC poll taken immediately after the debate wrapped, 62% of 521 registered voters who watched the debate said Clinton won, compared to 27% for Trump. Pulbic Policy Polling also had Clinton trumping Trump, but by a more narrow margin of 51% to 40%.

As thousands of Colombians offered both hope and skepticism, the government of Colombia and FARC Marxist rebels who fought a bitter civil war for more than half a century signed a historic peace accord on Monday, closing the Western Hemisphere's longest armed conflict. Brazil Supreme Court opens the door to investigate Temer on campaign funding

Brazilian Supreme Court judge has authorized a preliminary investigation into allegations from former Transpetro head Sergio Machado that President Michel Temer illegally solicited campaign money in 2012. Machado, who secured a plea deal after being implicated in the widely publicized Lava Jato scandal, said in court that Temer had asked for donations to benefit Sao Paulo's mayoral campaign for Gabriel Chalita.
