    China's Xi considers lowering import tariffs and duties

    Xi's address at the Boao Forum for Asia, (“Asian Davos”) — comes amid escalating trade tensions between China and the U.S.

    Chinese President Xi Jinping discussed plans to further open up the Chinese economy during a Tuesday address. Those measures included “significantly” lowering import tariffs for autos, decreasing duties on other products, enforcing the legal intellectual property of foreign firms and improving the investment environment for international companies.

    Co-deputy chief executive Christian Sewing will take over the role with immediate effect.

    Deutsche Bank has dismissed its British-born chief executive John Cryan amid continued losses at Germany's biggest lender. Co-deputy chief executive Christian Sewing will take over the role with immediate effect. Since Mr. Cryan began the job in 2015, there have been a series of scandals as well as three years of reported losses.

More than 120,000 attendees are expected to attend during the six days display.

    UK Export Finance support for Uruguay increased to £4 billion

    Sam Hoexter from UK Export Finance will give a presentation on export credits available for Uruguayan and British companies for up to £4 billion.

    The United Kingdom Export Finance (UKEF) support available for trade with Uruguay has been increased to up to £4 billion, meaning an additional £2.25 billion in support for UK companies exporting to Uruguay and for Uruguayan buyers of UK goods and services.

    Brazil's unemployment stubbornly remains above 12%

    The unemployment rate in Brazil was at 12.2% in the quarter ended in January and at 12.0% in the last quarter of 2017.

    Despite official announcements that Brazil's recession was turning into a mild recovery, the unemployment rate rose to 12.6% in the quarter ended in February, reaching the highest level since mid-2017 and surpassing market expectations of a 12.5% rate, according to the national statistics office.
