  Uruguay figures among the ten best national teams in the world according to the FIFA rating and has players in some of the top European teams, but back home things are quite different: a Sunday first league match was suspended at half time following shootings among hooligan gangs in one of the stadium's toilets, according to the first official reports.

  FIFA names chief commercial officer to ramp up Russia 2018 Cup sponsorships

  

  Le Floc’h, UEFA’s former marketing director until 2010, leaves Dubai-based Customised Solution FZ to take up the role of FIFA’s chief commercial officer on Oct. 11. The position was created as part of the restructuring of world football’s governing body in the wake of the corruption scandals that brought the federation to its knees.

  Falklands mine clearance project receives a new £20m UK commitment

  

  The Falkland Islands Government, FIG, and Falkland Islanders have welcomed the announcement of a new £20m landmine clearance commitment by the UK which will make safe dozens of areas which have been unusable for residents and visitors. The project financed by the Foreign Office and Ministry of Defense will clear 46 minefields over the next two years and prepare for clearance another 27. So far more than 30 minefields have been cleared in the Falklands in recent years and this is in line with the UK obligations under the Ottawa Treaty.

  Falklands registers for world shearing championships in NZ next February

  

  The World Shearing Championships Committee finds another gear as the World Event quickly approaches. Being held in Invercargill, Southland, New Zealand from the 9th to the 11th February in the ILT Stadium Southland, not only is the committee excited about hosting this event but Southland and New Zealand is getting behind a first in the South Island and only 5th time being held in New Zealand over a 40 year period (1980, 1988, 1996, 2012 – Masterton)

  Morales demands FIFA sanctions Chile for offensive chanting against Bolivia during Russia 2018 qualifier

  

  President Evo Morales has called on the soccer authorities of Bolivia, the South American football confederation, Conmebol, and FIFA to sanction Chile for the offensive chanting towards Bolivians during the Russia 2018 Cup qualifier match played on Tuesday night in Santiago's Monumental Stadium.

  FIFA prunes salaries and perks of top officials: US$ 1.53 for Infantino

  

  Gianni Infantino has accepted a salary of US$1.53 million a year, with FIFA No.2 Fatma Samoura set to receive US$1.3 million. Under the contract, Infantino also gets a car and lodgings paid during his term of office and “contribution for expenses in accordance with FIFA’s expenses regulations ($2,000 per month)”.Samoura has the same benefits but lodgings are not included.

  Carnival Vista causes devastation in a Messina marina sinking small vessels

  

  A giant cruise ship in Italy has left devastation in its wake after destroying a pier and sinking small vessels as it pulled away from shore. The Carnival Vista was just meters from its berth in Messina, Sicily when the prop wash from its thrusters caused a wild set of waves to topple a boat pier.

  21 year old Uruguayan Gaston Pereiro is now, and will remain, a ‘hero’ to the many thousands of fans of the famous Dutch football club PSV Eindhoven.
