  Falkland Islands Government Press Release: Visiting footballer Ardiles in a road taffic collision

  

  Ex-Tottenham Hotspurs player, Ossie Ardiles, was involved in a single vehicle road traffic collision (RTC) on the Darwin to Stanley road shortly after 1900hours on Monday 20th January 2014. Mr Ardiles is here filming part of a documentary on his football career for ESPN, alongside his friend and fellow Spurs star, Ricardo ‘Ricky’ Villa. Ossie’s son Federico Ardiles also joins the group.

  Falkland Islands Government sources tonight confirmed reports that former Argentine and Tottenham Hotspur star, Osvaldo Ardiles, was among those injured when a vehicle left the road between Darwin and the military base at Mount Pleasant on Monday evening.

  Falkland Islands oil and gas exploration company, Rockhopper Exploration confirmed Monday that its finance director, Peter Dixon-Clarke, plans to step down from his position in early 2014.

  Falklands new Attorney General is expected to arrive next March

  

  Peter Judge MBE has been named as the next Attorney General of the Falkland Islands. Mr Judge, who is scheduled to arrive in March 2014, will succeed current Attorney General Mark Lewis.

  HMS Protector surveying previously unchartered waters off Sandwich Islands

  

  Previously uncharted areas of the Southern Ocean have been surveyed by personnel on board Royal Navy ice patrol ship HMS Protector. Using its multi-beam echo sounder the ship gathered data off the Sandwich Islands along areas of the Douglas Straits between South Thule and Cook Island for the UK Hydrographic Office to fill in missing data in the Admiralty Charts.

  Falklands' pastures development scientist in the New Year's Honors List

  

  Two scientists from Britain's Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) have been awarded OBEs in the New Year’s Honors list. Professor Jim McAdam from Queen's University Belfast, for services to research and agriculture in the Falkland Islands, and Dr Danny Todd was honored for his contribution to biological sciences and veterinary work, reports Farming Life.

  Falklands oil companies agree on tension leg platform for development of Sea Lion field

  

  The Tension Leg Platform option is the most suitable technical and commercial solution for the development of the Falklands' Sea Lion field, according to the recommendation from field operator Premier Oil, said Rockhopper Exploration in an official release, which also announced further drilling is expected in the next twelve months.

  Falklands Sea Lion in 'the mid to longer term projects' of Premier Oil

  

  UK independent Premier Oil reported Thursday that its production rate peaked at 75,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day during December, when the average rate was 69,000 boepd. Premier said that average production for 2013 as a whole was 58,200 boepd, compared to an average rate of 57,700 boepd for 2012.

  HMS Portland with a female commander leaves for Atlantic patrol

  

  Type 23 frigate HMS Portland left on Monday from Davenport naval base for the Atlantic to provide on-going protection and reassurance to British interests in the region, which includes the Falklands and other South Atlantic islands.
