  Malvinas war veteran plans to visit Falklands cemeteries with a message from Francis

  

  Pope Francis blessed crucifixes and rosaries which will be taken to the Argentine and British cemeteries in the Falkland Islands by an Argentine war veteran. The Pope during the blessings called for peace “among the peoples” of the world.

  Falklands Daily Telegraph poll: majority of votes came from Argentina

  

  The Daily Telegraph stated on Wednesday that two thirds of the votes in the Falklands/Malvinas poll came from Argentina. The British newspaper argued that the Argentine vote-flow followed “a social media campaign”.

  Falklands fisheries will come under attack from Argentina so as to 'strangle the Islands'' economy

  Encouraging and bad news for albatrosses: while the black-browed has been down-listed from 'near threatened' the grey-headed albatross is in rapid decline and considered “endangered” mainly because of fishing activities, reports the latest edition of the South Georgia Newsletter.

  Prison sentences for those who drill for oil in Malvinas waters, warns Argentina

  

  ”Argentina will defend its claim” over the Malvinas Islands and companies drilling for oil off the coast of the contested resource-rich archipelago “will not only face administrative consequences but also prison sentences” warned Daniel Filmus, head of Argentina's recently created Malvinas Islands Secretariat, in an interview with The Guardian.

  Falklands' Scot Guards veterans donate a priceless crafted whiskey bottle

  

  Two 1982 Falkland Islands conflict veteran Scots Guards and the brother of the last man to be killed in action just 30 minutes before the surrender of the Argentine invaders on June 14 visited the Islands last week and made valuable donations to the Museum and the Cubs and Scout groups.

  Busy November in South Georgia with 11 cruises, yachts and HMS Protector

  

  November was a busy month for cruise vessels: eleven cruise ships visited South Georgia between the 9th and 29th, according to the South Georgia Newsletter. One cruise ship, Ortelius, reached the rarely visited South Sandwich Islands and was able to put scientist Tom Hart ashore on Saunders Island where he took soil samples and set up two camera-traps to monitor the penguin colonies.

  South Georgia will issue two-year licenses for toothfish and icefish

  

  The government of South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands has announced it will issue two-year fishing licenses to companies who successfully apply to fish for toothfish and icefish in the SGSSI Maritime Zone, reports the South Georgia Newsletter latest edition.

  Active online poll from “The Telegraph” shows Falklands should be under Argentine sovereignty

  

  According to an active online poll released in the British newspaper “The Daily Telegraph”, a clear majority, almost double, of the voters affirmed that the Falklands Islands should be under Argentina’s sovereignty. Almost half the majority of respondents rejected the idea and supported Britain, while the rest answered that the territory should be under “shared sovereignty.”
