    Model ships built by two young Aberdeenshire brothers have been launched on what is planned to be an epic journey around the South Pole. The mission to circumnavigate Antarctica, started by Harry and Ollie Ferguson, is thought to be a world first.

    Falklands extends payment increases to all FIG grades

    The agreement ends a long dispute that started when the Falkland Islands Budget was announced and limited payment increases.

    Following representations from Falkland Islands Government Officers, Members of Legislative Assembly reconsidered their budget decisions to not award increments to officers in grades C-A and agreed in Executive Council on July 3 to extend the award to include the payment of increments to all grades.

    The Falkland Islands (pop. 4,000) produced one of the major shocks in the history of the International Island Games by trouncing the host Island Guernsey by 6-2 to win the Gold Medal in the 'Recurve Head to Head Team Knockout' at the 2023 Island Games.

    Falklands projected new port facility is a floating dock at FIPASS location

    MLA Spink and Ms Clark gave an indication that the new facility should be able to be delivered more quickly, as the floating barges can be brought into the Islands

    A tender was launched on July 10 for a new port facility for the Falkland Islands, following previous iterations of plans being deemed too costly. The tender is for a floating dock location, to be located in the same location as FIPASS, the current port facility.

    Falklands launches tender for replacement of port facility FIPASS

    FIG today launched a tender for the provision of a new port facility for the Falkland Islands. The tender process was approved by Executive Council in February 2023, and today’s launch follows months of work with professional advisers and engagement with existing port users to refine the specification and provide both FIG and prospective tendering companies with a robust and complete model of what the Falklands needs from its port facility, looking decades into the future.
