    Falklands attended the IAATO annual conference in United States

    Steph Middleton is Executive Director of Falklands Tourist Board; Carl Sudder is Tourism Coordinator at Sulivan Shipping and Chair of Falklands Travel Assoc.

    Falkland Islands tourism ambassadors Steph Middleton and Carli Sudder are returning from the United States after attending this year’s International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators (IAATO) conference in Newport, Rhode Island. Steph Middleton is Executive Director of the Falkland Islands Tourist Board, while Carl Sudder is Tourism Coordinator at Sulivan Shipping and Chair of the Falklands Travel Association.

    Falkland Islands fishing companies may have attended the Brussels Seafood Show intermittently for over a decade, but the looming specter of Brexit lent this year’s attendance unprecedented significance. For James Bates, Falkland Islands Fishing Companies Association (FIFCA) Executive Secretary, Brexit gave the industry’s stand at the show a clear mandate this year, “it was about being visible at a time when we need to be.”

    Catches Variable but Falkland Islands Fishing Season Progressing Well

    Falklands celebrates birth of Prince Louis donating £5,000 to the Royal Foundation

    The Royal Foundation is supported by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and aims to unite people to tackle some of today’s biggest challenges.

    The Falkland Islands Government has announced that on 3 May 2018, £5,000 was donated to the Royal Foundation in celebration of the birth of His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge.

    Falklands Police issues search warrants for suspected drugs offences

    South America, including the Falkland Islands, has the highest number of planned and announced floating production, storage, and offloading units (FPSOs) to be commissioned by 2025, according to a report by GlobalData. World wide 74 planned and announced FPSOs are set to become operational for the outlook period between 2018 and 2025.

    The two days meeting will discuss fish and squid stocks in the South Atlantic, and the possibility of resuming the exchange of scientific fisheries

    Next Monday, 14 May 2018 four representatives from the Falkland Islands Government’s Natural Resources Department will be part of a UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office lead delegation meeting with the Government of Argentina, in Buenos Aires, to begin two days of discussions on fish and squid stocks in the South Atlantic, and the possibility of resuming the exchange of scientific fisheries data for the benefit of the region.

    Story of a Falklands donated Spitfire and its pilot, which crashed in Wales

    The aircraft was one of 10 Spitfires paid for by the people of the Falkland Islands, and having “Falkland Islands” written on the fuselage beneath the cockpit.

    Remains of one of the ten Spitfires paid for by the people of the Falkland Islands during WWII which was found back in 1979, forty years later led to a search on the incident, the pilot, his family and even possibly an appropriate monument to the 20-year old Sergeant, reports the Shropshire Star.

    United Kingdom ministers are unilaterally considering stopping EU access to the Galileo satellite earth station in the Falklands and Ascension, according to reports in the UK press. The move comes after Brussels chief Brexit negotiator, Michael Barnier, stated that UK companies would have to be excluded from the development of sensitive Galileo infrastructure following Brexit due to security concerns.

    South Georgia declared rat-free: four year successful program to eradicate invasive rodents

    Over the winter, the final examination of the BOT was carried out with the help of sniffer terriers, which confirmed the extinction of the rodents on the island.

    A Dundee-based charity has succeeded in its epic mission to declare a sub-Antarctic island rodent-free for the first time since humans arrived more than 200 years ago. In 2011, the South Georgia Heritage Trust started the world’s largest project to remove the invasive rats and mice to save South Georgia’s wildlife, including threatened pipits and pintails.
