  Norwegian giant salmon-faming company Marine Harvest has announced an agreement to purchase assets of the former Chilean farming company Acuinova Chile SA, currently in bankruptcy, for 120 million dollars.

  Argentine seafood exports up 3.9% in value and 3% in volume in first half of 2014

  

  In the first half of this year, Argentina seafood exports totaled 778.8 million dollars with a slight increase of 30 million dollars, and 3.9% over the same period of 2013 (749.6 million), reported the Directorate of Fisheries Economics from the Fisheries and Aquaculture Under Secretariat.

  Argentina opens hake quota reallocation period for the rest of the year

  

  Argentina's Federal Fisheries Council (CFP) has reassigned hake (Merluccius hubbsi) catches for the remainder of the year. According to Resolution 8/14, published in the Official Gazette, the vessel owners that considered themselves unable to capture the entire allocated hake quota, can partially return it to a reserve fund for future reallocation.

  New Zealand increases hoki TAAC following successful stock conservation management

  

  The Deepwater Group says the increase in the total allowable commercial catch (TACC) for hoki shows the benefits of a long term commitment to build biomass in this major New Zealand fishery. An increase in the hoki catch, from 150,000 to 160,000 tons, was announced on at the Seafood Industry Conference in Wellington by the Minister for Primary Industries Nathan Guy.

  Pescanova seems to be turning around following a severe financial purge

  

  The approval of the creditors’ agreement considering reductions over 90% of the debt helped the Galician multinational firm Pescanova achieve a net profit of EUR 1,790 million in the first half of this year. The six-month accounts submitted to the Spanish National Securities Market Commission (CNMV) show the cancellation of the firm’s bulky insolvency has meant the entry of EUR 2,3 million, which in the accounts figure as income.
