    BP buys into Egypt's super giant Zohr gas field, the largest in the Mediterranean

    The Zohr field was discovered by Eni in August 2015; six wells have so far been successfully drilled on the field located approximately 190kms north of Port Said

    BP announced on Friday that it has agreed to buy from Eni a 10% interest in the Shorouk concession offshore Egypt, which contains the super-giant Zohr gas field, for US$375 million. On closing, BP will also reimburse Eni for BP's share of past expenditure. As part of the agreement, BP also has an option before the end of 2017 to buy a further 5% interest in the concession under the same terms.

    Fidel Castro has died at the age of 90; hero and bastard, revolutionary and dictator

    Castro’s revolutionary spirit had beginnings from when he was a law student at the University of Havana. It was there that his interest in politics began.

    Fidel Castro, the fiery communist politician and Cuban revolutionary who led his country for almost half a century, has died. His health had been deteriorating since 2006, when he suffered from intestinal bleeding. He was 90 years old.

    Britain dismissed U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's unprecedented expression of support for Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage to be made British ambassador to Washington, saying pointedly that there is no vacancy for the job.     Post-election rally pushes Wall Street to new records: Dow Jones above 19.000

    Dow Jones industrial average was up 67.18 points, 0.35%, to 19,023.87; S&P 500 gained 4.76 points, 0.22%, to 2,202.94 and Nasdaq, 0.33%, to 5,386.35.

    United States stocks extended their post-U.S. election rally Tuesday with moderate gains that pushed the Dow above 19,000 for the first time and the three major indexes to record closing levels for a second straight day. The S&P 500 ended above 2,200, led by gains in telecommunications, up 2.1%, and consumer discretionary up 1.2%. The small-cap Russell 2000 index also set another record-high close.

    The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal would be “meaningless” without US participation, Japanese prime minister Shinzo Abe said as United States President-elect Donald Trump announced he planned to quit the pact. PM Abe’s comment on Monday (Tuesday morning) came shortly before the Mr Trump released a short video about his plans for his administration, including an intention to have the US drop out of the TPP pact.
