    Irish players deny receiving bribes not to injure Messi, as was reported by La Nacion

    “The Football Association of Ireland completely refutes allegations made about the Republic of Ireland v Argentina friendly match in La Nacion as baseless”.

    An Argentine newspaper has claimed that Irish players received bribes not to injure Lionel Messi at the opening game in the Aviva Stadium in 2010, but the story has been dismissed in the strongest possible terms by the Irish football association, FAI. According to La Nacion, a Fifa official was forced to go to extraordinary lengths to bring the Barcelona superstar and his team mates to Dublin.

    Brazilian central bank inflation estimates anticipate increase in interest rates

    The Brazilian Central Bank on Wednesday raised its inflation estimate for 2015 to 9%, or almost double the midpoint in the official range and well above the 6.5% top end target, and said the economy may contract by 1.1% this year, marking the worst performance since 1990.

    Spain to question Gibraltar’s exclusion from EU tax havens blacklist

    Spain treasury minister Cristobal Montoro, said Spain has “more than sufficient reason” to view Gibraltar as a tax haven.

    Spain will call on the European Commission to include Gibraltar on the EU blacklist of tax havens published last week, it emerged over the weekend. The list names the 30 top tax havens as identified by EU countries, but Gibraltar is not on it. Only nine of the EU’s 28 members - among them Spain - view the Rock as a harmful jurisdiction for taxation.
