    Chilean President Sebastian Pinera was reportedly forced to make an emergency landing on route to his holiday home in southern Chile on Sunday, due to technical problems, Chilean radio reported.However, the president soon thereafter denied the report.

    Thousands of Venezuelans took to the streets on Sunday, allies and adversaries alike, marking the 53rd anniversary of Venezuela’s democracy. Opposition supporters met in one part of Caracas, chanting anti-government slogans and waving Venezuelan flags and calling Chavez a despot and claiming he is amassing power and cracking down on dissent.

    Uruguayan President Jose Mujica has banned his ministers, officials and general staff from using social networking sites such as Facebook, MSN, Twitter and Skype during work hours. The president said that workers spend too much time using internet and are distracted.

    Bolivian Cabinet Changes

    Bolivian President Evo Morales has reinstated 17 of his cabinet members and changed three in a cabinet shakeup the state news agency ABI reported. Over the weekend all twenty ministers had tendered their resignations to President Evo Morales, as he began his sixth year in office. The cabinet changes come as Morales popularity drops according to opinion polls.

    The farmers’ strike which has been taking in place in Argentina for the past week ended on midnight Sunday but the leaders have warned that members of the relevant rural entities will meet in two weeks, to discuss further measures and that they do not rule out another strike. The current measures had put a halt to the sale of grains.
