  US court opens the way for Argentina's return to world money markets

  

  The United States Court of Appeals paved the way on Wednesday for Argentina to raise billions of dollars to pay a group of hedge funds, bringing it one step closer to re-entering international markets for the first time in 15 years. In a ruling from the bench, three judges on the court of appeals upheld a ruling by Judge Thomas Griesa of District Court in Manhattan to lift an injunction that had barred Argentina from paying its creditors and eventually led the country to default in 2014.

  Argentina ready to formally join the IMF fold; Prat-Gay to meet Lagarde this week

  

  Argentina will start discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) this week on its first Article IV review in a decade, Finance Minister Alfonso Prat Gay said at a conference held by the Institute of International Finance (IIF) in Nassau. “Next week we are going to have a discussion (with the IMF) to agree on an actual schedule for the next Article IV evaluation, which will happen sometime around September,” Prat Gay told the audience on Sunday.

  Argentina promulgates bill which allows for payment of accord with bondholders

  The Argentine government made official the accord reached with the holdout funds sponsored by a New York federal court, to pay for defaulted bonds in a fifteen year litigation, following the approval of the bill by the Senate. This means Argentina can now look for funds in the international monetary market.

  Judge Griesa sends strong message of support for Argentina at crucial moment

  

  As the Argentine congress started to debate an end to the 15-year litigation, United States District Judge Thomas Griesa sent a new message of support to Argentina by claiming he won’t allow any attempts to seize the funds to be used by Argentina to pay the holdout creditors.

  Argentina agrees to pay Italian bond holders including “a reasonable interest”

  

  Argentina announced Tuesday that it reached a $900 million preliminary accord to settle its pending debt with 50,000 Italian holders of defaulted Argentine government bonds. Finance minister Alfonso Prat-Gay said that the agreement with Italian bondholders includes the Argentine government's acknowledgement of the debt “and reasonable interest”.

  IMF praise for Argentina's measures... but forecasts 'mild recession' this year

  

  Despite the austerity policies that have been implemented by the government of President Mauricio Macri, Argentina will see a bigger than expected recession this year, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said in a new report. The economy is set to decline 1% this year, a drop that is 0.3 percentage points larger than the previous forecast that the IMF had released in October.
