  Argentina and Chile alternate in Antarctic Combined Naval Patrolling

  

  Argentina and Chile are already alternatively operating the Antarctica Combined Naval Patrolling, (PANC), which is responsible for maritime control and safety, including search and rescue missions, in the Southern Ocean particularly significant in summer months because of the increase in tourism traffic.

  Brazil and Argentina agree to open Mercosur to the world and expand trade horizons

  

  Brazil and Argentina foreign ministers agreed on Thursday in Brasilia that Mercosur must open to the world and expand its trade horizons, but it will have to be done without Venezuela which has been currently “ceased” from the block. Jose Serra and Susana Malcorra coincided that Mercosur must speed the trade agreement with the European Union taking advantage of the fact US elected-president Donald Trump has pledged to limit such treaties.

  UK celebrates 25th anniversary of Antarctic Environmental protection treaty

  

  On the twenty fifth anniversary of the Antarctic Treaty Protocol on Environmental Protection, British Minister for Polar Regions, Sir Alan Duncan underlined the hsitoric contribution and role played by the UK in Antarctica and in elaborating the protocol. Sir Duncan also pointed out that Antarctica has been the scene of considerable cooperation between the UK and Argentina, both within the Treaty system and in the field of science, “an area where I hope we may be able to do even more in the coming years”.

  City if Buenos Aires criminalises street harassment

  

  The Buenos Aires City Hall Wednesday passed a bill establishing fines of up to 1,000 pesos (around US$ 60) for those who commit sexual harassment in public places. Prevention campaigns have also been announced.

  Argentina excluded from OECD PISA academic tests: information deemed “insufficient”

  

  Argentina has not been included in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s ranking of education quality because the information provided by the country was deemed insufficient. The OECD-designed PISA test evaluates the academic performance of 15-year-olds in 71 countries around the world in math, science and reading comprehension. It’s been conducted every three years since 2000.

  Falklands: Argentine diplomats in Geneva for talks on identifying remains of soldiers at Darwin cemetery

  

  Diplomats from the Malvinas Desk of the Argentine Foreign ministry have travelled to Geneva for crucial meetings later this week with their British, Falklands counterparts and Red Cross members to reach a definitive agreement on the DNA tests for the identification of the remains of Argentine combatants buried in the Darwin cemetery, following the 1982 conflict, reports Clarin.

  An Argentine teacher and runner who has competed three times in the annual Falklands marathon met last week Pope Francis, in Rome, and handed him a “little piece of the Falklands” and some of the berries that the Argentine soldiers had to eat during their time in the 1982 conflict.
