  Bank of England rates remain at record low, but could be further cut

  

  The Bank of England said on Thursday it was still likely to cut interest rates to just above zero later this year, even though the initial Brexit hit to Britain's economy would be less severe than it expected only last month. The Bank said its nine rate-setters were unanimous in their decision to keep Bank Rate at its new record low of 0.25%, the lowest in the BoE's 322-year history.

Micheline Calmy-Rey said the two countries shared a common purpose out - or planning to be out - of the European Union. But both still want a good trade relationship with the union.

  May pledges to work “for all not just the privileged few”; Johnson foreign secretary and Hammond chancellor

  

  New Prime Minister Theresa May has made Boris Johnson, the former London mayor who led the Brexit campaign, foreign secretary in her new government. He replaces Philip Hammond, who becomes chancellor and ex-Energy Secretary Amber Rudd is home secretary and Euro skeptic David Davis is the Brexit secretary. Ex-chancellor George Osborne was not included apparently because his “brand” was seen as “too tarnished”.

  Spain insists with joint sovereignty for Gibraltar, if it wants to remain in the EU

  

  Spain has said it will formally propose to the European Union that the question of Gibraltar be treated separately when it negotiates Britain’s exit. The acting Foreign Minister, José Manuel García-Margallo reminded journalists in Spain that when Britain leaves all EU treaties will stop applying to the Rock.

  Brazil's recession greater risk than Brexit for Argentina: could chip 1.5 percentage points from GDP

  

  Argentina’s annual rate of inflation was likely to have reached an annualized 42% through May, but should begin to slow in June with a return to growth also on the horizon, Finance Minister Alfonso Prat-Gay said in an address to investors in New York. The minister also said that for Argentina, Brazil's recession had a greater impact than Brexit.
