    Brigadier Nick Sawyer, new Commander British Forces South Atlantic Islands

    Last weekend BFSAI said farewell to outgoing CBFSAI Brigadier Bennett CBE and welcomed Brigadier Sawyer as the new CBFSAI.(Pic BFSAI)<br />

    The new Commander British Forces South Atlantic Islands, (CBFSAI), is Brigadier Nick Sawyer. Brigadier Sawyer commissioned into the Royal Artillery in 1994 and has served in many different countries, including the Balkans, Iraq, Afghanistan, Cyprus and Congo.

    Falklands: improvements to Mare Harbour jetty completed

    A state of the art jetty which will improve military capability in the Falkland Islands and improve life for personnel on the Islands has been completed by Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO). Work to upgrade the jetty in Mare Harbour was officially opened recently by Geoff Robson, DIO’s Chief Operating Officer.

    Queen's Baton Relay of Commonwealth Games arrived in the Falkland Islands

    The Queen's Baton Relay of the Commonwealth Games has arrived in the Falkland Islands. The baton carries a message from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Head of the Commonwealth, and is travelling around the world prior to the beginning of the Commonwealth Games in April 2018. This tradition began in 1958. The baton visit was organised by the Falkland Islands Overseas Games Association (FIOGA)

    Refuelling Hub for South Atlantic Airbridge confirmed as Cape Verde

    The SAA will continue to transit through Sal, Cape Verde until 2020

    The Ministry of Defence (MoD) is pleased to announce that a final decision has been taken on the location of the refuelling hub for the South Atlantic Airbridge (SAA). The SAA will continue to transit through Sal, Cape Verde until 2020, when the Ascension Island runway resurfacing project is expected to be complete.

    Falklands/UK airbridge has reduced flight time with re-route via Cape Verde

    The Brize Norton/Falklands MPA Airbridge has had a bumpy ride over recent weeks with delays on north and south-bound flights

    The United Kingdom MoD (Ministry of Defense) announced on Thursday that plans were in place to trial the Falkland Islands Airbridge flight via Sal, Cape Verde, on a temporary basis which would result in a shorter overall flight time and improved passenger experience.

    Falkland Islands lawmaker, MLA Mike Summers apologized on behalf of the UK Ministry of Defense (MoD) for the disruption that the flight diversion from Ascension Island had caused, but said he knew they were working hard to ensure proper arrangements were in place for the continuation of the air bridge with the UK.
