The British Embassy in Chile participated at the mining conference Medmin to strengthen the importance of British innovative solutions for the mining sector in a country which is highly dependent on minerals and is the world's leading exporter of copper.
Several sustainable mining projects supported by the British Embassy’s 2016 Prosperity Fund and Newton-Picarte science and innovation fund were discussed at a workshop held at the British Embassy in late July.
A networking reception was held in the British residence on Wednesday 25 May to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the rescue by the Chilean pilot Luis Pardo, of the Armada de Chile, of Ernest Shackleton’s crew from Elephant Island.

Thanks to an alliance between the British Embassy and Corpartes, renowned British theatre company The Globe will present William Shakespeare’s ‘Much ado about nothing’ at the Centro de las Artes 660 / CA660 in Santiago de Chile. The British embassy in Santiago participated in Chile's annual National Heritage Day, enabling hundreds to visit the official Residence and at the same time launched a month of activities to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta on 15 June 1215.
A group of the main Chilean universities travelled to the United Kingdom on an invitation from UK Universities, with the purpose of deepening links and greater opportunities for collaboration in areas such as research and innovation. This was a follow up mission to the 12 British universities that visited Chile last year to establish links with their counterparts.
A Chilean delegation representing the city of Antofagasta visited the UK to explore energy efficiency best practices and new technologies.
