    UK embassy in Uruguay co-organizes major agriculture academic competition

    Hackathon AGRO is an open competition for Uruguay teams of researchers, entrepreneurs and experts in Information Technologies, Agro and Business

    The British Embassy in Montevideo, Cuti, ARU and ANDE are co-organizing the third edition of Hackathon AGRO which will take place at Expo Prado 2018 on 14-16 September. Hackathon AGRO is an open competition for Uruguayan teams made up of researchers, entrepreneurs and experts in Information Technologies, Agro and Business.

    Uruguay presented in London as main gateway to Latin America

    Ian Duddy, UK Ambassador to Uruguay said the Embassy in Montevideo can offer services in order to introduce Uruguay as a destination for British exports.

    A trade mission was held in London from 14 to 18 May to promote Uruguay to UK exporters. The mission was organized by Uruguay XXI, the investment, export and country brand promotion agency, along with the British Embassy in Montevideo, the British-Uruguayan Chamber of Commerce with the support of the UK Department for International Trade.

    “Why Uruguay? Latin America’s Finest Business Gateway “, which will take place in the North Tower of Tower Bridge.

    The mission is being organized by Uruguay XXI, the investment, export and country brand promotion agency, along with the British Embassy in Montevideo, the British-Uruguayan Chamber of Commerce and with the support of the UK Department for International Trade. The trade mission will be present between May 14/18.

    Falklands have three new young “ambassadors”

    Three young people who, judging by their boundless enthusiasm for all things Falkland, could be ambassadors for the Islands after only a week in Stanley and the Camp. Mauricio Giraudo from Uruguay, Marco Franceschini from Brazil and Hristo Gomez, from Chile, are this year’s winners of a competition organized each year by the British embassies in Montevideo, Brasilia and Santiago and sponsored and financed by the Falkland Islands Government.

    Falklands/Uruguay strengthening of links is of interest to visiting diplomats

    Two British diplomats based in Latin America were visiting the Falklands this week, arriving on Sunday on the delayed LATAM flight after enjoying an unexpected one-night stopover in Punta Arenas. Making his second visit to the Falklands was His Excellency Ian Duddy, British Ambassador to Uruguay. He was accompanied by Richard Jones, Second Secretary at the British Embassy in Buenos Aires.

    Winners of the Hackathon Agro competition co-organized by the UK embassy in Uruguay, the local Cámara Uruguaya de Tecnologías de la Información (CUTI) and Fundación da Vinci, have visited England. Carlos Capano, Juan Francisco Kniazev and Agustín Ackermann, shared their experiences from their trip to England with Ambassador Ian Duddy, upon their return.

    MINI presented their new MINI Countryman and offered a Test Drive Show. JCB promoted their construction machinery equipment

    From 6-17 September, Montevideo was home to Uruguay’s biggest agricultural industrial fair, Expo-Prado, and the British Embassy was present with a pavilion focused on tourism, business, education, gastronomy and culture.

    UK Export Finance is increasing its support for British trade with Uruguay

    UKEF support is also available in Uruguay Pesos, allowing Uruguayan buyers to access finance in their own currency making sourcing from UK more competitive.

    UK Export Finance (UKEF) support available for trade with Uruguay is increasing to up to £4 billion, meaning an additional £2.25 billion in support for UK companies exporting to Uruguay and for Uruguayan buyers of UK goods and services. This finance can be used to support projects across numerous sectors including infrastructure.

    The British embassy in Uruguay organized a pre-departure event for the Chevening scholars who will study masters degrees at UK universities in 2017-18. After a presentation on the Chevening experience and what awaits them upon their arrival in the United Kingdom, the ambassador offered a reception for them and their families, authorities, alumni and members of the Graduates from British Universities Association, GBUA.
