  Cruise vessels allowed to operate along the Chilean coast smaller ports

  

  Chilean cruise operators and travel agencies have praised a bill approved by Congress, the Coastal traffic law, which allows cruise vessels with a 400 passenger capacity or more, and even smaller if there are no Chilean similar vessels, to sail along the country's ports.

  Southampton “invaded” by ten cruise vessels, with some 55.000 travelers

  

  Southampton welcomed a £25 million boost to its economy over the weekend as ten cruise ships arrived in the city's port. Some 55,000 passengers were embarked and disembarked, splashing their cash in the city's hotels, restaurants and bars. Each of the ships, was estimated to bring a £2.5million boost to the city's economy.

  Punta Arenas is enjoying a record cruise season with over 20.000 visitors in the last week according to the numbers released by the port's authority. This includes the 4.000 which landed over the weekend from the Silver Spirit, Queen Victoria and Stella Australis.

  Uruguay hosts conference on strategies and response to cruise ship accidents

  

  Uruguay hosted last week a conference and workshop on “tools and strategies to strengthen the response to cruise ship accidents”. David Jardine-Smith, from the International Maritime Rescue Federation, and Roly McKie, HM Coastguard Staff Officer, Search and Rescue Operations, were the facilitators of the event.

  Falklands cruise season: Ushuaia warns “Gaucho Rivero” bill will be fully enforced

  

  The “Gaucho Rivero” bill which bans the access of British flagged (red ensign) or convenience flagged vessels which call in the Falkland Islands remains fully in force for Ushuaia, said Marcelo Echazú, head of the Tierra del Fuego Tourism Institute, Infuetur, on announcing this year’s cruise season.
