    PM May leadership questioned by Tories divided over Europe

    No 10 says Mrs May had made progress in the negotiations and set out a “clear vision” of the UK's future relations.

    Prime minister Theresa May has been warned the UK risks disaster unless she “sees off hard Brexiteers” in her own party amid continuing Tory divisions over Europe. Ex-minister Anna Soubry said the PM must not let what she said were 35 MPs dictate the terms of the UK's EU exit.

    Bank of England said UK was already suffering a “Brexit effect”

    Bank of Englnad vsaid that while global growth had accelerated, the UK was suffering a “Brexit effect” in the short term.

    A “deeper relationship” with Europe will benefit the UK economy, the governor of the Bank of England has argued. Mark Carney's comments follow claims by chancellor Philip Hammond that the UK and EU economies will only move “very modestly” apart after Brexit.

    Fifteen years of success for Airbus; backlog of 7.265 aircraft at the end of 2017

    With this year’s performance Airbus has steadily built on deliveries year on year – with 15 consecutive years of production increase.

    Airbus’ Commercial Aircraft deliveries in 2017 were up for the 15th year in a row, reaching a new company record of 718 aircraft delivered to 85 customers. Deliveries were more than 4% higher than the previous record of 688 set in 2016. The 2017 total comprises: 558 single aisle A320 Family (of which 181 were A320neo – an increase of 166% over 2016); 67 A330s; 78 A350 XWBs (up by nearly 60% from 2016) and 15 A380s. Furthermore, to cap this resounding annual production achievement, Airbus achieved 1,109 net orders from 44 customers. At the end of 2017 Airbus’ overall backlog stood at 7,265 aircraft valued at US$1.059 trillion at list prices.

    European Union countries failed this week to vote on a license extension for weed-killer glyphosate, delaying again a decision on the widely used herbicide that critics say could cause cancer. The EU said in a statement the relevant committee did not hold a vote at a meeting and that it would announce the date of the next meeting shortly.

    The European Union has suffered a “double dip” collapse in favorability in many member states since 2010, with many citizens across Europe demanding it return powers to them, according to research. A report from the Pew Research Center published Tuesday found that the British, who will vote on their future in the bloc on June 23, are not the only country with doubts about the EU.
