    UK Ambassador meets with Malvinas Families commission

    British ambassador in Buenos Aires, Mark Kent this week held a meeting with relatives of Argentine combatants who lost their lives during the Falklands conflict in 1982, according to the embassy twitter. The meeting was described as “historic”, and Ambassador Kent said that the “warm and most respectful dialogue”, addressed humanitarian issues and “how to honor the memory and dignity of the fallen in combat”.

    Falklands' population better off, healthier and happier than when the 2012 Census

    According to the Census form, 62% classed themselves as Falkland Islander; 23% as British; St Helenian identity was claimed by 4% of the residents and Chilean 5%

    The Falklands population continues to grow, is generally better off, healthier and happy with the roof over their heads, than four years ago when the last Census was conducted. Maeve Daly, Statistics and Performance Officer of FIG’s Policy Unit presented the ‘headlines’ of the latest Census, at a Public Meeting last week.

    Falklands' defense renewal with Israeli sophisticated equipment triggers controversy

    A Royal Air Force Hercules was photographed at the Porto Alegre international airport in August last year when it called allegedly for refueling, en route to the Falkland/Malvinas islands, according to the Rio Grande do Sul main daily Zero Hora. The photo from Centeno Mendes, was published following Argentina's official concern to Brasilia regarding 18 RAF calls in Brazilian airports, in the last two years.

    There are no secret flights between Falklands and Brazil, and any landings which have occurred are because of medical or mechanical emergencies, said UK ambassador in Argentina Mark Kent, in fluent Spanish, currently visiting the province of Mendoza on official business and for the grape harvest and wine festival.

    Identification of soldiers remains buried in Falklands has started, says Argentina

    The proposal intends to settle a historic debt with the relatives of the fallen heroes who rest in the Darwin cemetery under the caption, 'Argentine soldier only known by God'.

    The Argentine Justice ministry's Human Rights and Cultural Pluralism Desk, announced on Friday that the identification process of the remains of the “Argentine heroes” buried in the Falkland Islands Darwin cemetery has started, and is based on the “accord signed between Argentina and the UK”.

    The Brazilian government announced it had opened an investigation among miltiary institutions regarding Royal Air Force landings in Brazilian airports, while making flights between Britain and the Falkland/Malvinas Islands.

    History of the Falklands Interim Conservation Zone

    The zone had a 160-nauticalmile radius and on February first, 1987 the Falkland Islands Fisheries (Conservation and Management) Ordinance came in to effect.

    On October 29 1986, a proclamation declaring the Interim Falklands Conservation Zone was signed by Governor Gordon Jewkes. The zone had a 160-nauticalmile (300 km; 180 mi) radius. On February 1, 1987 the Falkland Islands Fisheries (Conservation and Management) Ordinance came in to effect.

    Falklands celebrates in an Open Day the 30th anniversary of the Fishery

    MLA Phyl Rendell underlined the significance of the fishing industry, but also support from UK in protecting the Fishing Zone and fishery’s overseas partners.

    Around 360 Falklands residents visited the floating dock FIPASS on Saturday 25th February as part of Fish Day – celebrating 30 years of the Falkland Islands Fishery. The Falkland Islands Fishing Association (FIFCA) Executive Secretary Jackie Cotter told Penguin News the day went very well and its aim, as well as celebrating the anniversary, was to give a general overview both of the fishery and the Falklands Government Fisheries Department.

    Falklands demining accident; work continues normally in other minefields

    Demining in minefield SA032 has been suspended temporarily pending results of a full investigation which will be carried out by the Demining Project Office

    A member of the demining team is receiving treatment in hospital following a demining accident on 27 February, reports the Falkland Islands government. During routine demining, a Team Leader, suffered minor injuries to his hand following an explosion. The incident occurred in minefield SA032 located in Moody Valley, to the west of Stanley.
