  Sarah Whitby takes oath as Falklands, South Georgia Senior Magistrate

  

  Sarah Whitby was officially sworn in as the Falkland Islands Senior Magistrate at a ceremony at Government House. Mrs Whitby, previously Crown Counsel for Civil and Safeguarding, will fulfill the role of Senior Magistrate and Coroner for the Falklands, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands, and the British Antarctic Territory, as well as acting Judge for the Falkland Islands.

  Falklands' January storm causes massive loss of Rockhopper penguin chicks

  

  84% of Rockhopper chicks on Sea Lion Island have died as a result of a storm that hit the Falkland Islands on January 14/15. Strong easterly winds on the island, which lies southeast of East Falklands, launched sea spray on to the colony for more than 48 hours, to deadly effect, said owner Mickey Reeves.

  The Argentine foreign ministry reported that on Thursday it had reaffirmed before UN Decolonization Committee, C24, the country's 'legitimate rights' over the South Atlantic Islands and surrounding maritime spaces, and called on the United Kingdom to resume negotiations for a peaceful solution to the dispute.

  Falklands' veteran, discharged for LGBT, has medal returned and an apology from the Ministry of Defense

  

  Falklands veteran forced out of the Royal Navy due to his sexuality has had a medal returned to him 27 years after it was cut off his chest. Joe Ousalice was a radio operator for 18 years but was discharged in 1993 because of a ban on LGBT people serving in the armed forces.

  End of 'comfort zone' for UK in Falklands' issues; Argentine ambassador in London and ex Deputy foreign minister, sacked

  

  The Argentine government has called back to Buenos Aires two ambassadors who were instrumental in the drafting and implementation of the 2016 Foradori-Duncan communiqué which opened the way for a more constructive relationship between Argentina and the UK, in a raft of issues, including those in the South Atlantic and the disputed Falklands Islands.
