  Royal Navy fifth patrol vessel formally named HMS Spey; Falklands' bound HMS Forth undergoing helicopter trials

  

  The fifth and final new patrol ship for the Royal Navy was today formally named as work on HMS Spey nears completion. The shattering of a bottle of whisky from the affiliated Speyside Distillery as it struck the hull of the £127m Offshore Patrol Vessel marked the formal ‘baptism’ after Spey’s sponsor Lady Alison Johnstone had uttered the historic words “I name this ship…”.

  Falklands appoints new Director of Policy and Economic Development

  

  The Falkland Islands Government announced on Tuesday the appointment of Andrew Gaule as the new of Director of Policy and Economic Development. Andrew is due to arrive in the Islands on 2 November 2019 to allow for a seamless handover from the current Director Diane Simsovic.

  A 50p Falklands' coin with the wrong Rockhopper penguin variety nets £114 online

  

  A rare 50p coin from the Falkland Islands has sold for almost £114 online, thanks to a subtle blunder. The silver coin was minted as part of a set of four penguin-themed 50ps designed to celebrate the wildlife on the British isles back in 2017. The original 50p coins featured the wrong variety of Rockhopper penguin

  Falklands recognizes the twelve year service of HMS Clyde

  

  A special service has been held at Christ Church Cathedral on the Falkland Islands to celebrate the work of a long-standing community member - HMS Clyde. The Royal Navy's River-class vessel is recognized as the Falklands patrol ship, having been dedicated to the South Atlantic for the last 12 years.

  First-ever Falklands competition in a full sized international Cup: Hockey medallists in Miami

  

  The Falkland Islands competed in the LATAM Cup in Coral Springs FL, for the first time ever this year and came away with two medals, one each for the under 16’s and the senior team. This is the first time the Falkland Islands has ever competed in this size of tournament and on a full-sized rink.

  Falklands' Mare Harbour Ro-Ro facility upgraded for Point Class vessels

  

  UK/Dutch VolkerStevin was contracted for the of upgrading Mare Harbour in the Falkland Islands, a job which was completed six weeks ahead of schedule and within budget. The improvements to the roll on roll off jetty were part of a £19m contract with VolkerStevin for design and construction.
